Help, I'm a perfectionist!

Stop being a slave to your perfectionism: learn to change your habits and beliefs.

Perfectionism is not always acknowledged for what it is. It manifests itself through a variety of symptoms:

  • The need for validation
  • Setting superior quality requirements
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anxiety of failure and other fears
  • Urge to control everything and everyone
  • Worrying
  • Procrastination
  • Not being able to choose or decide
  • Great sense of commitment and responsibility
  • Keep going on - not giving up

There are many underlying beliefs which stem from childhood, and that were learned while growing up. If you want to work on these symptoms, and thus on your perfectionism, then this requires a change in your way of thinking and your way of thinking and your actions. Which precise changes are needed, is different for everyone. Knowing what you want to change does not necessarily mean that you will succeed. Often, we fall back into old habits. In this training session, you will discover why this occurs and what you can do about it.

1/ Change of behaviour:

This training course aims to clarify what your major points for attention are. The subconscious works as a recording device: it constantly records all sensory signals and controls our behaviour, based on old patterns. As a result, we sometimes behave differently than we would consciously want.

For example:

  • You would rather say "no", but your subconscious overpowers your conscious will and, once again, you say "Yes, I'll do that."
  • You want to participate in more sports, but the moment you have planned this, you always give priority to something else that is supposedly ‘more important’.

What behaviour do you keep repeating again and again, so that you always end up in the same situation?

We can change the subconscious, but not by talking to it.

During this training course we learn several methods for ‘reprogramming’ our habits.

2/ Change your thinking and your beliefs:

Our beliefs strongly influence our behaviour. They motivate us and shape what we do. They give meaning to the world around us. They are not about reality, but give meaning or an explanation to what we consider as being reality. It is difficult to learn anything if you do not believe that it may be enjoyable and that you will benefit from it (logic levels!). This also works conversely. Just think of the placebo effect: patients feel better if they believe that they have received an active drug, even though the placebo does not contain any active ingredients.

Your beliefs directly affect both you and your surroundings. If you do not change your beliefs, you will always suffer from your excessive sense of perfectionism. In this training course you will learn how to deal with and change limiting beliefs.

What exactly will you take away from this course?

  • What steps should you take to be able to work towards your goals?
  • Can you do this immediately or should you divide it into smaller sub-goals?
  • What are the basic conditions for success?
  • The 4-step plan to achieve your goals
  • What impact will your beliefs have on your behaviour and responses

What will you be reflecting on?

  • You will stop and think about what you want to achieve in your life
  • You will identify what is important to you and what you consider a burden
  • You learn to analyse what behaviours and beliefs you need to change, to achieve your desired results.

What will you experience and do?

  • You will identify your goals using a mind map and you will learn to divide them into small, achievable sub-steps.
  • You will learn to communicate with your brain through images in order to imprint new experience paths (= this is also used on top sportsmen).
  • You will learn to detect your subconscious beliefs and, subsequently, to change them.
  • Through muscle testing (kinesiology), you can determine whether a change really has taken place.
  • During the process you will learn to test yourself and apply the technique in order to change beliefs and habitual patterns.
  • You will actively get started on your goals, so that you will experience the effect during the process.

What can you learn from each other?

  • By sharing goals and sub-goals and by detailing the development of the necessary steps, participants will be able to inspire each other. You narrate only what you want to share, and work on the remainder privately.
  • You will discover that many people are faced with exactly the same challenges as you are. This way, you can encourage and inspire each other in how to approach the issue.
